Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, is swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz. She lands in Munchkinland, where she accidentally defeats the Wicked Witch of the East. Glinda, the Good Witch, tells Dorothy to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard of Oz in returning home.

Along the way, Dorothy befriends a Scarecrow seeking a brain, a Tin Man longing for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion hoping for courage. Together, they face obstacles, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for her sister’s demise. After surviving the witch’s attacks, they reach the Emerald City, where the Wizard promises to grant their wishes if they defeat the witch.

Dorothy and her friends confront the witch in her castle, ultimately melting her with water. They return to the Wizard, only to discover he is an ordinary man using illusions. Still, he helps grant their wishes—revealing they had what they needed all along. Dorothy learns she can return home by clicking her ruby slippers and wakes up in Kansas, realizing there’s no place like home.

ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS

This youth production is designed specifically to provide a nurturing, constructive and safe environment for young performers. The workshop will focus on honing performance skills, boosting confidence and having FUN! It will be great way for participants to work with professional theatre makers and most importantly give them a chance to get up on stage and perform!!

The workshop registration fee covers the costs of: rights, royalties, insurances, technical and creative staff, set and props and venue hire. Once the cast has been finalised you may have an additional costume hire fee (as stated on registration form).

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in BGPA’s production of The Wizard of Oz. This is a youth production for 6-18 yr olds. All participants must be at least 6 years old by the date of performance.

AUDITION DAY FOR SPEAKING/FEATURED ROLES:

Character/featured role auditions are NOT compulsory and are for any participant who would like to be considered for a speaking or featured role, plus a great way to get to know the creative team!!

Our in-person try outs will be held on SUNDAY 16TH OF MARCH at our Bowen Hills Studio.

If you wish to be considered for a lead/featured role however cannot make it to our audition day… that's okay! Email us directly on info@bgperformingarts.com and we can offer an online video submission!

Audition Day Details:

When: Sunday 16th of March 2025

Where: 12 Jamieson Street, Bowen Hills QLD 4006

Time:
6-12yrs: 9:00am-12:00pm - students can sign into the building from 8:45pm
13-18yrs: 12:30pm-5:30pm - students can sign into the building from 12:15pm

What: Attendees will participate in a vocal, acting and dance session for our creative team to assess where each performer will best fit within the show.

What to bring: Appropriate shoes, sweat towel, sufficient water and snacks and anything else you may need! (We will provide all paper materials)

What to wear: Please wear clothing that you can easily move in (you will be dancing) and enclosed shoes. Jazz shoes are recommended but not necessary.

What to prepare: All music and dance components will be taught on the day. All singing and acting materials can be found on the dropbox link received after registration. We encourage everyone to be off-book for the audition so we can see your best work! (You can bring a copy with you if needed!)
