Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favourite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Ages 12 to 18 are welcome to audition.

ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS

This youth production is designed specifically to provide a nurturing, constructive and safe environment for young performers. The workshop will focus on honing performance skills, boosting confidence and having FUN! It will be great way for participants to work with professional theatre makers and most importantly give them a chance to get up on stage and perform!!

The workshop registration fee covers the costs of: rights, royalties, insurances, technical and creative staff, set and props, venue hire and even a pizza party! Once the cast has been finalised you may have an additional costume hire fee (as stated on registration form).

Thank you for your interest in BGPA’s production of SHREK THE MUSICAL JR. This is a youth production for 12-18 yr olds. All participants must be at least 12 years old by the date of performance.

AUDITION DAY FOR SPEAKING/FEATURED ROLES:

Character/featured role try outs are NOT compulsory and are for any participant who would like to be considered for a speaking or featured role, plus a great way to get to know the creative team!!

Our in-person try outs will be held on SUNDAY 1ST OF SEPTEMBER at Brisbane Academy of Dance in Stafford.

If you wish to be considered for a lead/featured role however cannot make it to our audition day… that's okay! Email us directly on info@bgperformingarts.com and we can offer an online video submission!

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Audition Day Details:

When: Sunday 1st of September 2024

Where: Brisbane Academy of Dance
15 Harvton St, Stafford QLD 4053

Time: 12:30pm-5:30pm - students can sign into the building from 12:15pm

What: Attendees will participate in a vocal, acting and dance session for our creative team to assess where each performer will best fit within the show.

What to bring: Appropriate shoes, sweat towel, sufficient water and snacks and anything else you may need! (We will provide all paper materials)

What to wear: Please wear clothing that you can easily move in (you will be dancing) and enclosed shoes. Jazz shoes are recommended but not necessary.

What to prepare: All music and dance components will be taught on the day. All singing and acting materials can be found on the dropbox link received after registration. We encourage everyone to be off-book for the audition so we can see your best work! (You can bring a copy with you if needed!)
